Transportation

Princeton Junction is the closest train station to Princeton campus on the Northeast Corridor main line. Both NJ Transit and Amtrak trains stop at Princeton Junction, but the Amtrak trains are much more expensive and not much faster.

Princeton Station is the train station on Princeton campus, with a shuttle service called the "Dinky" connecting to Princeton Junction. Princeton Station is the best station for coming directly to campus or the hotels withing walking distance (Nassau Inn, Peacock Inn). For other hotels on Route 1, taking an Uber/Lyft from Princeton Junction is better.

The NJTransit Trip Planner can be used to help you determine the best way for you to travel to campus. When using the planner, be careful to avoid confusing Princeton Station and Princeton Junction.

Using the NJTransit app (Google, Apple) is the easiest way to buy tickets but paper tickets are also available for purchase at all stations at vending machines with cash or credit/debit card. Tickets don't expire and are valid in either direction between the endpoints printed on the ticket. Tickets are non-refundable and there are no on/off-peak hours. Trains are rarely crowded, though you may need to walk to the front of the train to find a seat at peak times.

From Newark Liberty International Airport

Newark Airport is the closest airport to Princeton, and there is a short monorail ("airtrain") that connects the terminals to the Northeast Corridor train station, where you can catch NJ Transit trains southbound to Princeton Junction. You will need to show your train ticket twice (once on the airtrain, and then again on the NJ Transit train).

From Philadelphia

SEPTA and Amtrak trains connect Philadelphia to both Trenton and Princeton Junction. From the Trenton Transit Center, the NJTransit #606 bus offers transportation to campus on a regular schedule (tickets must be purchased in advance or with exact change in cash upon boarding).

Other Cities on the Northeast Corridor

Amtrak service connects Princeton Junction to Washington, D.C., Boston and the greater northeast.

TigerTransit and Local Transportation

Princeton's TigerTransit shuttles also connect Prinecton Junction with Princeton University campus via Alexander road, which can also be used by Code4Lib attendees staying at the Hyatt Regency hotel to get to campus.

For more information about parking, lodging, and transportation, see Princeton University's "Visit Us" website.
